午前中の最後には、カブリヨ大学からのトップ（副学長）や関係者の方々による歓迎会が開かれました。それぞれの方々から、温かい歓迎のことばや励ましのことばをいただきました。文京の学生たちがカブリヨ大学の構内でみかけるようになると、春がやってきたことがわかり、家族が帰ってきたような思いになるという挨拶もありました。今年で８年目を迎えることもあり、関係者の顔ぶれがいつも同じであることに安心感を覚え、さらなる信頼関係へとつながっていくことを実感しています。

Vice President of Cabrillo and other officials as well as student senators joined us for the welcoming ceremony.  Each of them gave us a warm welcoming speech.  After a thank-you speech given by the professor from Bunkyo (so-called a mother of the program which was renamed to a grandmother of the program today !), Chie gave a speech in English for the first time.  She did a great job!

お昼にはカブリヨ大学の日本語のクラスの学生が１０人ほど来てくれて、ピザパーティーが行われました。英語ではなかなか言葉が出てこない学生たちも、日本語を教えるとなるとちょっと自信が出てくるようです。自分から話しかけていく練習になります。とは言っても、カブリヨの学生たちの日本語も初級ですから英語を使って説明したり、英語での話の方が多くなることもあるようで、お互いに協力し合って理解することを学ぶいい機会になったと思われます。さらに、このような学生同士の学びは、授業で学ぶことと実社会で使われているコミュニケーションとのギャップを埋める懸け橋となるのではないでしょうか。

After the formal ceremony, about 10 students from Japanese I and II joined us for a pizza lunch party.  The students are no longer shy when they teach Japanese and listen patiently to what the students learning Japanese try to say in Japanese.  Needless to say, the same thing happens to Cabrillo students teaching English to Bunkyo students.  They seemed to understand each other in both Japanese and English while learning useful and cool expressions for young people.  So a language exchange is one of the best trainings to bridge the gap between classroom learning and communicating in the real world!

ピザランチの準備をしてくれたジンスさんと、このランチに出席を促してくれた日本語クラスの担当教員である萱脇先生に、全員で感謝をしました。とても有意義で楽しいランチになりました。

We all thanked Jinsu who prepared for this lunch party and Kayawaki-sensei, a Japanese teacher at Cabrillo who encouraged her students to come to the party for language exchanges.  We enjoyed a great lunch together!
