午後からは、一回目のESLの授業が、いつものようにシェリー先生の指導で始まりました。こんなにはっきりと口を開けてゆっくり話すと顔の筋肉が疲れるだろうなあと心配になるほど、シェリーの発音は聞き取りやすいです。
The students had the first ESL lesson this afternoon. Sherrie is a teacher again. She is an excellent teacher who speaks so clearly and slowly so that her students understand what she is saying. I wonder if she may have to use a lot of facial muscles when she speaks to non-English speakers!

カードに書かれている質問をペアーになって聞いて、そのカードを交換し、また他の人に新しいカードの質問をして、それに答える練習をしていました。
例えば、質問は、”Do you like to dance? What kind of dancing do you like?”
Before calling it a day, they had an activity which required all the students to stand up and move. Each had a card where two questions were written and found a partner to ask them. After this, they exchanged their cards and found a new partner and did the same thing until you couldn’t find a new partner. For example, the questions were like this: ”Do you like to dance? What kind of dancing do you like?”

このペアーはそんなにおかしな質問をしたのでしょうか。カードは ”Do you worry? What do you worry about?” だったようですが．．．
These students laughed a lot. Did they asked funny questions or have funny answers, or both? Later I found the questions were “Do you worry? What do you worry about?”

これで全員と質疑応答ができたようです。たくさん英語を使う練習ができたので、早速ぜひ実際に使ってみましょう。
They practiced asking and answering a lot of questions. Let’s use them while you are here, students!
