今日の午前中はカブリヨ大学の幼児教育学部の施設である”Children’s Center”で観察実習を行いました。観察室に移動する前に学科長のジーンからChildren’s Centerの概要について話がありました。
Students observed children in the infant, toddler, and preschool rooms at Cabrillo Children’s Center after having an introductory session led by Jean.

去年の夏に文京に研修に来たメリサンドがアシスタントで加わってくれ、観察後は学生たちからのたくさんの質問に丁寧に答えてもらいました。例えば、「おやつの時間と与え方」「スペイン語と英語のバイリンガル表記について」「先生の服装について」「オムツ替えと排泄行為が子どもの尊重にかかわること」などなど興味深い質問が多く出されました。ここの施設での写真撮影は禁止されていたため、学生たちは観察記録をとることに集中していました。
Melisande who came to Bunkyo last summer was with us and answered all the questions that the students had after the observation. They were something like snack time issues, Spanish-English bilingual display, diaper change and toileting policy, dress code policy for teachers, and many more on childcare programs and education.

薄暗い観察室から出て、外で食べるランチは格別でしたね。

シェリー先生のESLの授業が午後から始まりました。ところで、机の形がユニークですね！ 頬杖をつくのに好都合？！
Sherrie is an ESL teacher and her first lesson started this afternoon. Anyhow, have you ever seen a desk like that in the photo? What a nice shape!

シェリーのESLクラスはいつも実用的で話すことを重視しています。２枚のカードに書かれている質問をなるべく多くの人に聞いて答えをもらう活動をしているようです。例えば、”What are three things you can do to be healthy?” “What is a good toy for children? What is a bad toy for children? Why?” などですが、うまく答えられたでしょうか。
Sherrie always tries to make her lessons interactive and fun so her students don’t even realize they’re learning!!
