It was so hot and humid out (over 90F). The students spent a day exploring the Ueno and Asakusa area with two Japanese students. The area is one of Japan’s representative sightseeing areas. They were just strolling in the area and visiting temples and museums to cool down. They had lunch at Inshou-tei in Ueno Park. They tried Kaiseki cuisine (vegetarian’s temple food) with a wide variety of tofu dishes.
今日は３３度の猛暑の中、一日、文京の学生たち２名と一緒に上野、浅草を探訪しました。上野・浅草界隈は東京の代表的な観光地の一つです。お寺や美術館があり、ぶらぶら歩きには最適です。上野公園内の韻松亭で昼ごはんを食べました。肉を使わない懐石料理で豆腐が中心のメニューです。

They didn’t look tired at all. Good for you! The photo was taken in front of Kaminari-mon (Thunder Gate) in Asakusa.. It is Senso-ji temple’s main gate and symbol of Asakusa. The other photo shows giant waraji straw sandals dedicated in 1940 which hang on the back side of the Houzou-mon (Treasure Gate). Many people touch this waraji, wishing for being good walkers.
最初の写真は、浅草寺の雷門の前で撮りました。皆、暑さの中でも元気そうですね。２枚目は、浅草寺の２番目の門、宝蔵門の裏側にある大わらじの前で撮りました。これに触ると健脚になると言われています。

There is a nice Japanese garden adjacent to the Senso-ji temple. The garden is slightly isolated and a haven of tranquility, an adequate stop to escape the crowds.
最後は本堂横の日本庭園で、人込みから離れて静けさと情緒を楽しみました。
